May 2010
Dear Praying Friends:
“If I were to ask you to tell me how to become a Christian, what would you say?” This is the question I posed to an individual at a store in Dover, New Hampshire, this month. The conversation started when I commented on a cute tiger baby plate that was lying out of place in the book section of the store. The man told me he grew up in a long line of Baptist ministers in Georgia, attended church from the time he was young but left when he was a teenager, and was now not attending anymore but still claimed to be a Christian. He didn’t know how to answer my question, so I pulled out a tract and shared how the Bible says one needs to confess his sin before God and believe that Christ died on the cross to cleanse him from that sin. Please pray for this man’s eyes to be opened to the truth of the Gospel and that he will attend a church that I referred him to in the area. Please also pray for more opportunities for me to witness as I travel.
God gave me some glimpses of His protection on my travel this month. Once, while driving in New Hampshire, I noticed a helicopter flying overhead. My first thought was that they were checking speed; my thinking soon changed when I saw the helicopter get bigger and bigger as it landed on the road ahead. A 15-year-old boy had just had an accident on the road in front of me, and the helicopter came to fly him to emergency care. About a week later, I was driving on I-80 near Snow Shoe, Pennsylvania, when traffic suddenly backed up in both lanes. A tractor-trailer had flipped, blocking both lanes just 4 miles ahead. It took me one hour to drive two miles, as the crews routed us off the interstate and around the country mountain roads to get back on. I am so thankful for God’s protection.
There are many praises to share with you this month:
1. My support went up to 77%!
2. The balikbayan boxes I packed in November have finally arrived at Bob Jones Memorial Bible College, and two more are beginning the long trek across the ocean this month.
3. The Primary and Early Intermediate piano books that I arranged are in the final stages of printing/binding and will soon be available at Christian book stores around the Philippines.
4. My meetings in New England went very well; I had opportunities to speak in two Christian schools, challenging young people to serve the Lord with their talents. At one school in New Hampshire, I enjoyed teaching a crash course in hymn playing to the church pianist and to some younger pianists.
5. God granted safety as I drove from Maine to Illinois via Connecticut and Wisconsin in one week!
Please pray for the following requests:
1. Safety and good health as I drive long distances
2. Wisdom as I continue working on my itinerary for 2010.
3. Financial support. My support level is currently at 77%!
4. Opportunities to witness; boldness to share the Gospel
5. Salvation: man at store in New Hampshire
6. Ruth Potter: support for a third year teaching at BJMBC
7. Comprehension as I continue studying the Tagalog language.
