Music is the world’s universal language—appropriate for all ages at all times. It is my joy to train students to appreciate music by playing the piano. In my lessons, I incorporate not only the notes of music but also the history behind the selections and the theory of what makes music work. To me it is important to guide my students in the learning process, so they may develop their skills in playing alone and with others. As Carl Orff said in regards to teaching, “Tell me, I forget, show me, I remember, involve me, I understand.”
Curriculum
Lessons are custom designed to fit the needs of each individual student. All students receive a strong foundation in music theory and technique while developing solid skills in standard classical repertoire. Students can also learn hymn playing and improvisation techniques.
Practice and Instrument
Students are required to practice regularly at least five days a week. Regular practice aids learning and progress. While a digital piano or keyboard with weighted keys may be nice, an in-tune acoustic piano is strongly encouraged.
Materials
Students should bring their own notebook for the teacher to write their lessons in. Books and sheet music the teacher desires to use for the student will be billed separately; the teacher will inform parents whenever new music is needed. Students are expected to bring their own books/music for their lessons.
Calendar and Schedule
Monthly tuition rates are determined based on a calendar of 44 weekly private lessons. The teacher does not teach during Thanksgiving and Christmas. The other six (6) weeks of the year are reserved for the teacher to take off from lessons if needed (due to inclement weather, personal illness, family emergency, etc.). If the teacher chooses not to use all six “flex weeks,” the student benefits by receiving those lessons for free.
Attendance
Students are expected to arrive on time for their lessons. Students arriving late will only be given the remainder of their lesson time. Those who miss a complete lesson will simply miss the benefit of that lesson. Should an absence be anticipated, the teacher requests a 24-hour notice.
Tuition and Payment
Monthly payments are due by the 10th of each month. Payments given after the 10th of the month will incur a late fee of $25 for that particular month. An option for weekly payments is also available; in this case, payment is required at the beginning of every lesson. Your tuition covers not only the weekly lesson time but also the time the teacher spends preparing for the lesson.
